Chez Coeur Mailbox
As you rifle through Justin's mailbox (Hey! That's a federal
offense, you know), you find that it is neatly organized, but
preposterously large, and filled almost to capacity. It contains a
number of daily newspapers:
- C|Net News is all kinds of
random techie news, mostly focused on the Internet.
- Wired News is also
technically oriented, but with a great deal more attitude, or
pretension, depending on your point of view.
- Suck is Wired's sister
publication (or bastard offspring), dedicated to taking a
nasty look at something every day. Sometimes interesting, but
it looks like a lot of unread issues have built up.
- The Adrenaline Vault is
a constant spew of information about the gaming industry. It's
clear that Justin is valiantly trying to keep up.
- Blue's News is also
about the gaming biz, and rather more news-oriented.
- Slashdot isn't so much
game-oriented, but is very geek-oriented.
- There are also some daily comic strips stuffed into the box,
rather haphazardly:
Underneath that are the weekly magazines:
- Gamasutra is the best
place I know for hardcore discussion of game technology,
especially software.
- Risks Digest
is a plain, old-fashioned newsletter, apparently mimeographed.
But the content is a rather disturbing look at our modern
high-tech world.
- The Onion is the newspaper
for Hometown, USA -- the most sincere look available at how the
country really works.
- Comic Books
Resources is a solid, up-to-date spotlight on the comix
industry. It's got news and interviews and crap like that.
But most importantly, it's got
YABS
and
Come In Alone.
As you look through the stacks, you marvel at how any person could
delude himself into believing that he could actually follow all of
this. Truly, Justin is a poster boy for infoglut...
